2. SOMETHING FOR YOUR HEART
BITE #10
Now I rejoice in what was suffered for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ's afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church. (Colossians 1:24)
Paul tells the Colossians that he rejoices in the fact that Christ suffered and died for them. You, too, can rejoice and celebrate the fact that Christ suffered and died for your family and friends. We're grateful for Christ's death, but we also celebrate his resurrection from the dead! He's alive right now! He didn't simply die for your sins; he rose and lives to empower you to live the holy life he calls you to live!
Paul also tells his friends in Colosse that he, too, will suffer in spreading the gospel. Christ never promised us that being a Christian would be easy. When we take the gospel to the world around us, we're unable to avoid suffering.
What are some of the things you find toughest about sharing your faith with others? Which types of suffering have you experienced because of you determination to share the gospel with others? (check all that apply)
___ A. People have made fun of me.
___ B. I've been physically abused.
___ C. I've been jailed.
___ D. People have told lies about me.
___ E. I've been falsely accused.
___ F. I've been sent to the principal's office.
___ G. I've been given detention.
___ H. I've been verbally abused.
___ I. I've been laughed at.
___ J. People have talked behind my back.
___ K. Some people refuse to be my friends.
Take a moment to stop and pray for missionaries--those who have committed their lives to spreading the gospel in other countries. Many of them face daily persecution. Ask God to empower them and guide their steps.
Now take a moment to write out a prayer for Christians living in countries who oppose Christianity. Many of these Christians are taken from their families, beaten, jailed, or even killed. Ask God to strengthen and comfort them. Pray for the persecution to cease.
