2. SOMETHING FOR YOUR HEART
Topic:
Jesus doesn't just love you he actually likes you!
Main Scripture:
"The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing." (Zephaniah 3:17, ESV)
Other Scriptures:
John 15:13-16; Romans 8:31-39
What Jesus Might Say to You:
Let me ask you this: What do you think my reaction is when I hear your name? What is the expression on my face? Is it a look of disappointment? Am I rolling my eyes? Am I shaking my head? Am I thinking, "What a pain that one is!"?
How do I really feel about you? You may be thinking, "Obviously he loves me; it's his job to love me, but I would bet he's not very thrilled with me much of the time." You may be thinking this because you often feel that way about others. You probably love quite a few people in your own life because you feel like you should. But you don't necessarily like them all the time.
As hard as it may be to believe...I actually like you. It's true. When I hear your name, I get excited...so excited that my heart leaps, and I sing songs about you. Crazy, right? Well, it's true.
When I look at you, I feel blessed. Not only that, but there's nothing you could ever do to make me love you or like you any less. Nothing. No matter where you've been, no matter what you've done, no matter what you're going to do...my opinion of you will not change.
So the next time you imagine my reaction upon hearing your name...know that there's a giant smile on my face, a song on my lips, and joy in my heart. I like you...a lot!
Love,
Jesus
Summary Challenge:
Jesus thinks you're amazing; you can't do anything to change that!
Take some time to journal about this truth.

2. SOMETHING FOR YOUR HEART
Jesus was a simple guy. He had just a few close friends, lived on very little money, and owned only one piece of clothing when he died which, by the way, was the only personal possession of his that the Bible mentions. How does that compare with life in our material culture?
In the United States we rent storage units to hold all the stuff we don't use, but don't want to get rid of. And all the while, our culture tells us we need more and more. So we spend most of our lives trying to get stuff that really isn't all that meaningful.
All of our stuff and our perceived lack of stuff causes stress on the soul. Our stuff also serves to distract us from being who God calls us to be. Look around your room. Take a peek at your calendar. Consider your plans for the future. How much of it involves simplifying your life and how much involves complicating it? God desires us to be diligent and to work hard, but he also wants our souls to be uncluttered. His way of living is much less hurried and hectic.
Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30).

6. POTENT QUOTABLES
"When I saw others straining toward God, I did not understand it, for though I may have had him less than they did, there was no one blocking the way between him and me, and I could reach his heart easily. It is up to him, after all, to have us, our part consists of almost solely in letting him grasp us."
- Rainer Maria Rilke
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, "Thy will be done," and those to whom God says, "All right, then, have it your way."
- C.S. Lewis
WHAT DOES GOD WANT FROM ME?
Being a Christian means doing the right thing. But what is the "right thing?" Lots of your fellow Christians may have opinions about what God's plan for you is, but it's important for YOU to know what God's plan for you is. In "What Does God Want From Me?" Mark Matlock will guide you through God's Word to help you figure out what God really wants from you.
Also available in your local Christian bookstore.
